Now is the time to bake. I hope everyone is staying safe and practicing social distancing.
This bread is delicious, I made this a month or so ago and another time since then. The second time I used honey and it worked really well. Remember, fresh bread goes bad quicker than grocery store bread so feel free to refrigerate or freeze it to make it last longer.
Whole Wheat Bread
Ingredients
2c All purpose flour
2 tbsp. shortening or butter
1/4c sugar or honey
1c milk
1 tsp salt
2 1/4 tsp yeast
2c Whole wheat flour
1/4-1/2c water
Instructions
Warm milk just slightly and add shortening, sugar, salt, yeast and all purpose flour. Let rest for 1 hour. Add in whole wheat flour and knead until elastic and smooth. Add additional water 1tbs at a time if dough is too dry. Let rise until doubled in size (1-2hrs). Divide dough into 2 greased loaf pans and let rise again until dough has risen 1-2 inches above the edge of the pan. Bake at 350 for 50-60minutes. Let cool completely and enjoy.
