Originally this recipe is from my Grandpa’s sister so, my great aunt. My mom said that the way they would eat them is with butter on the bottom.
The flavor of these cookies are definitely reminiscent of gingerbread without the ginger. The only trouble I ran into was with the oven temp and time. I burnt the bottom of my first batch of cookies so I had to turn the oven down and bake for longer which was NBD.
Molasses Cookies
Ingredients
2c sugar
1c shortening
1tsp baking soda
2tsp cinnamon
1tsp cloves
1c molasses
1c hot tap water
2eggs
6c flour
Instructions
Combine flour, spices and baking soda. In a separate bowl cream together the sugar and shortening until fluffy. Mix in the eggs and molasses. Add in the water and flour alternating until fully combined. Using a scoop or two spoons drop portions onto a prepared cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes. I found that the cookies don’t spread much so I was able to bake more than I usually would on one pan
