Sugar Cookies

My mom says that she doesn’t remember my grandmother making sugar cookies but she definitely remembers eating them. I’m going to be honest and let you know that the icing recipe is not from Kathryn…it’s from the internet. There was no icing recipe on the card but I really wanted to ice my cookies.

Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
2/3c shortening
3/4c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
4 tsp milk
2c sifted flower
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

Instructions
Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add egg and milk and beat till light and fluffy. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt then blend into the shortening mixture. Divide dough into two discs, cover in plastic wrap and chill at least 1 hour. On a lightly floured surface roll out to 1/8 inch. You may need to press the sides of the dough in to keep from forming cracks. Cut into desired shapes and bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes. Let sit on pan for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Repeat with other half of dough or store in the fridge for 3 days or freezer 3 months

This icing is similar to the one I used https://www.spendwithpennies.com/sugar-cookie-icing/
